ADDRESSABLE SYSTEMS

We offer two types of Addressable Systems which can control each damper individually so that, in the event of a fire alarm signal, dampers are controlled either to be in the open or closed position dependent upon where the fire is located.

This gives greater flexibilty over the system and also reduces wiring costs when compared to a hard wired system.

A keyboard graphical display unit (HMI) or touchscreen is available for our PLC Addressable Systems and is used to monitor and/or override the system for control and maintenance purposes and is programmable to suit the Client's requirements and includes password protection. 


HARD WIRED PANELS

Alternatively, we offer hard wired panels directly wired to each damper which will close all the dampers in the event of a fire alarm signal.

This is a low cost system ideally suited to a system of up to 48 dampers.  The dampers will automatically re-open when the fire signal returns to normal.

Our PLC Addressable Systems are more suited to complex, larger systems and our Simple Addressable Systems are usually used for smaller systems. Our Hard Wired Panels can be used for systems comprising up to 48 dampers and our Mini Hard Wired Panels have been specially designed to operate from one fire alarm zone.

Hard Wired Panels

Hard Wired or Electro Mechanical Panels are normally cost effective for up to about 30 smoke/fire dampers although we can supply panels for systems up to 48 smoke/fire dampers. Our Mini-Hard Wired Panel has been specially designed to operate up to 12 dampers from one fire alarm zone. 

All dampers will be held open normally but all will close on a fire alarm signal. The dampers will automatically re-open when the fire signal returns to normal. These panels are generally used with Belimo 24v open/spring closed motors.

A 4 core cable connects each damper motor to the panel. Field wiring is connected via DIF.4 damper interface modules. Each DIF.4 serves 4 dampers and are used in multiples for the required number of dampers.

On the panel facia are mounted LEDs to indicate individual damper status - red for closed, green for open. The LEDs are mounted through an engraved traffolyte label giving damper references.

Mini Hard Wired Panels

Our Mini Hard Wired Panels are a cost effective solution for smoke control systems up to 12 dampers. Price for a 12 damper Mini Panel is £290.00+vat and this price will be held for orders placed in 2014.

Hard wired panels comprise the following:–

Wall mounted steel enclosure rated IP54 with lockable door

Inside the panel usually consists of the following mounted items:-

Toroidal transformer 240v/24v 300VA
Bridge rectifier
Rail mounted fuse for 240v
Rail mounted fuse for 24v
Relay for fire alarm signal
Relay for common damper closed alarm
DIF-4 terminal interfaces for damper status wiring (top entry)

On the panel fascia will be mounted the following:-

Traffolyte label engraved SD01 to SD21
Tricolour LEDs for damper indication (+ 3 spare)
3 position Fireman's override keyswitch labeled “Open / Auto / Close“

Optional extras:-

Un-Interruptable power supply (to drive the dampers and LED indicators in the event of a power failure).
Different damper motor voltages

Distributed hard wired panel

The central panel is identical to a hard wired panel as described above. However extra junction boxes are supplied and distributed around the building. Groups of dampers are then wired to the nearest junction box using a 4 core cable for each damper. A multicore cable is then run to connect each junction box to the central panel. The number of cores required is generally (2n + 2) where n is the number of dampers. This system is most suitable for 24v motors where a power supply is incorporated in each junction box to reduce voltage drop over long cable runs.

 


Simple Addressable System

For simple addressable systems we use our S90C System which is designed to control motorised fire/smoke dampers over a high integrity 2 wire network. In the event of a fire alarm signal, each damper is controlled either to be in the open or closed position dependent upon where the fire is located.  This gives greater flexibilty than a hard wired system and also reduces wiring costs as each damper is not individually wired to the control panel.

The Blue River Controls S90C System uses a fire detection analogue addressable protocol that complies with BS5839. It incorporates the following communications network advantages:-

•  Resistant to fire and heat through use of Firetuff, pyro, etc. cabling
•  Bi-directional so a break in the cable does not affect the system
•  Fault tolerant of short circuits with the use of line isolators

Key features:-

•  2 Core screened Firetuff cable for communications
•  Maximum of 100 dampers per loop
•  Maximum loop size of 2Km
•  Multiple loops for large projects
•  Mitsubishi PLCs for complex logic
•  Fan controls can be incorporated

Multiple loops for large projects
At present up to six loops can be controlled from one Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). Very large projects can use multiple PLCs.

Maximum of 100 dampers per loop
Each loop of the system will accommodate up to 100 addressable units which can be for dampers, fans, smoke detectors or other field devices. Addresses above 100 are reserved for remote indicator devices where, for example, damper status can be displayed on a remote mimic over the comms loop.

Maximum loop size of 2km
This is adequate for the largest building. On multiple buildings, individual loop control systems can be networked to a Building Management System using Modbus protocol.

Mitsubishi PLCs for complex logic
The systems use Mitsubishi FX series PLCs for single loop systems and Q series PLCs for multi loop systems. These are very powerful industry standard controllers with a wealth of features. Programming is in ladder logic and can be modified and maintained by any engineer with Mitsubishi experience. Mitsubishi supply a range of fully programmable keyboard displays and touch screens for the user to interface with the system.

Fan Controls can be incorporated
Control of fans can be incorporated with the damper controls to give automatic operation in a fire, or override facilities for firemen. It is sometimes useful to interlock fans with critical dampers to prevent over pressure in ductwork.


PLC Addressable Systems

These systems combine the flexibilty of a PLC (Progarmmable Logic Controller) with our high integrity building network for controlling motorised smoke dampers.

Our S90C controller is at the heart of the addressable system.  It controls an XP95 network with up to 126 addresses (100 addressable units + LED drivers).  When working with a PLC the S90C controller sends input data from the field to the PLC.  It receives output data from the PLC and transmits this back to the field.

Mitsubishi PLCs for complex logic

The PLC (e.g. Mitsubishi FX3G), using Apollo XP95 protocol, provides a high integrity network between the control points.  This has advantages in terms of power and flexibility as this system is software driven and can drive/monitor significant numbers of smoke/fire dampers. This also enables us to use standard Mitsubishi programming tools (GX Developer) to write and test the required program. Programs can be changed on site with a laptop PC and the system can be easily maintained without the need of specialist knowledge from us as programming is in ladder logic and can be modified and maintained by any engineer with Mitsubishi experience. The systems use Mitsubishi FX series PLCs for single loop systems and Q series PLCs for multi loop systems. These are very powerful industry standard controllers with a wealth of features. Mitsubishi supply a range of fully programmable keyboard displays and touchscreens for the user to interface with the system.

Maximum of 100 dampers per loop

Mimic Panel

Our Mimic Panel monitors the status of the dampers showing whether they are in the open or closed position.
